Russian Brass Quintet Music

On Wednesday, we heard most of this recording made by the Montanus Brass Quintet. It contains some numerous significant works for brass quintet by Russian composers, as well as a few transcriptions that work well for quintet.

Hear the CD (allow pop-up for player) or here (hold mouse over notes icon until icon spins)

Here is the track-listing to help you with your research on these composers, works and arrangers:

Viktor Grischin (or Victor Grishin, or Victor Grishin, or Victor Grichin)information is hard to come by, not least because Victor Grishin was mayor of Moscow during the mid-1980s. (The same one? Probably not, but stranger things have happened. I can't think of one, though.) The "real" Viktor Grishin is a percussionist, and while I found no reference to him in the Grove Dictionary, he was listed as a vibraphonist and drummer in for 1979 and 1980 Alfred Schnittke premieres.

Grishin led the Bolshoi Ballet Percussion ensemble. He is also mentioned in this incomprehensibly mistranslated list of what appear to be composers. Searches of "premium" UI databases likewise come up empty.

I have not been able to find out anything on Poteenko except that he has also written a tuba concerto.
